Welcome to Chinatown, Singapore

As a part of our Inter-Disciplinary Studies project, we decided to create a tour in Chinatown for the participants of Singapore Youth Olympic Games and with $ 20 per person. This is our guide for the participants:

From Hwa Chong Institution to Chinatown, we need to take the 961 bus from National JC
and alight at People's Park Complex, Eu Tong Sen Street, which is 26 stops later. After that, walk to the Chinatown MRT station which will take us to Chinatown. The total cost will be about S$ 3.10 for come and go.

The tour:

Arriving at Chinatown, you will immediately feel the traditional chinese culture that Chinatown has. Once an accommodation area, it has transformed to a market place now where goods are sold at low prices. Chinatown contains a big history of the Chinese immigrants in Singapore.

See the red markings on the Chinatown Map? It was once an accommodation area for the Chinese immigrants in early Singapore, where it was allocated by Stamford Raffles, but now it is a place where they sell goods and also food and beverages.

Entering Chinatown from the MRT Station, start the tour by visiting the Chinatown Heritage Centre, discover the wonders of the rich Chinatown History of when Stamford Raffles made the Raffles' Town Plan. Although it costs S$ 10 to enter Chinatown Heritage Centre, I assure you it will be a memorable experience of Chinatown. This will take about 1 hour or so.

After visiting the wonderful history of Chinatown, refresh yourself by drinking some beverages or eat some food that range from S$ 1.00 to S$ 7.00. There are also chinese cultural food in some restaurants. Chinatown has a lot of shops and hawkers where you can buy cheap food or souvenirs for this trip.

After that, why not visit the Buddha Tooth Relic Museum that contains the tooth of a Buddha displayed. This museum is built near these years, it is not a very old building, but a new museum.

After visiting the Buddha Tooth Relic Museum, the tour is over. Hope that the participants will have a memorable experience when visiting Chinatown.
